Banjarbaru,  S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - South Kalimantan Forest Agency planted 823 stems from 22 types of bamboo in the Sultan Adam Public Forest Park (Tahura) area, Mandiangin, Banjar District, on Wednesday.

Head of the agency Hanif Faisol Nurofiq in Martapura said that bamboo was intentionally planted in the public forest park because the area would become a bamboo arboretum that could be used for research, education, and ecotourism.

The arboretum is a kind of botanical garden that collects trees. In botanical gardens, collection plants are maintained and given names and some other information that is useful for visitors. Two important additions to a botanical garden are the library and herbarium.

"Today we plant 22 types of bamboo taken from various countries. Of these 22 species, 14 of them are local bamboo," Hanif explained.

This bamboo planting, continued Hanif, is a manifestation of the provincial government's commitment in developing and cultivating bamboo in South Kalimantan.

Previously, the South Kalimantan Provincial Government sent a delegation to China to learn more about bamboo development and cultivation.
