Banjarmasin - The South Kalimantan Regional Office of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) seized as many as 18 million illegal cigarettes which did not fulfill the excise tape requirements.


The IDR 15 billion worth of evidence was the result of prosecution during January to November 2018. The illegal cigarettes circulated in the working area of the South Kalimantan DJBC covering Banjarmasin, Kotabaru, Pulang Pisau, Sampit and Pangkalan Bun. The resulting state losses were estimated at IDR 7.3 billion.

"We continue to try to cut the supply and demand chain. As s known the illegal cigarette producers come from East Java and Central Java. South Kalimantan is the marketing destination," explained Head of DJBC's Enforcement and Investigation Rahmadi Effendi, Thursday (13/12).

He was speaking during the destruction of millions of illegal cigarettes of various brands as a result of prosecution during 2018 in the yard of the DJBC office on Jalan Barito Ilir, Trisakti Harbor, Banjarmasin.

Effendi acknowledged that South Kalimantan had indeed become a potential market for the circulation of low-priced cigarettes. Many workers on plantations, mining, to factory workers who smoke these cigarettes.

For this reason, his party coordinates with customs in the place of origin of cigarette producers to intensify efforts to eradicate illegal tobacco products.

On the other hand, the success of DJBC received appreciation from the South Kalimantan Prosecutor's Office who continued to support the prosecution of the defendants at the trial. This year 7 cases of the crime of goods subjected to excise have been verdicted by the Banjarmasin District Court.
