Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Dozens of TNI-AD (Army) members from 1005 Marabahan District Military Command (Kodim) and 101 Antasari Provincial Military Command (Korem) were again deployed to assist in the implementation of land optimization at the ex-commemoration of World Food Day in Jejangkit Village, Barito Kuala District.
Deputy Territorial Assistant (Waaster) of Army Chief of Staff (Kasad) Brigadier General Gathut Setyo Utomo after reviewing the site on Wednesday said TNI would always support the government in increasing food production.
According to him, planting on ex-WFD is an attempt to optimize the land, which previously only planted during the dry season is now being attempted to be able to be planted in the rainy season.
"Planting activities that began on Thursday (13/12) at the same time provide an example to farmers that planting in the rainy season can also work well," he said.
The plan is the TNI members will plant superior types of rice, so that farmers can carry out two to three harvests a year.
In the initial stage, around 50 hectares of the total 240 hectares of land are planted. After that it is evaluated, if good planting is continued and it is hoped that the effort will be imitated by the farmers.
"How many troops we deploy will be adjusted," he said.
