Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - The Government of South Kalimantan seeks to strengthen the protection and rights of people with disabilities (difabel) through changes in regional regulations concerning the protection and fulfillment of the rights of persons with disabilities.

Deputy Governor Rudy Resnawan in Banjarmasin said Thursday the local legislative council (DPRD) had approved the draft regulation on the amendment to Perda (local regulation) No. 17/2013 concerning the Fulfillment of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to become regulations.

According to him, the approval of the draft regulation to become a local regulation is expected to be able to accommodate the needs and rights of the disabled according to the stipulated provisions.

"We hope all the rights and needs of disabled people in the future will be truly addressed and accommodated, both in terms of education, employment, health, and others," he said.

Asma Vikra Zulva, a member of the DPRD's Commission IV,  said that based on data from the Central Statistics Agency in 2015, there were 19,000 people with disabilities in South Kalimantan.

Chair of the South Kalimantan Chapter of Indonesian Disability Women's Association (HWDI) Masni welcomed the approval of the draft regulation.
According to her, so far people with disabilities find it difficult, especially in terms of getting a job.

"We have trouble getting a job, moreover there are companies that include physical and spiritual health conditions," she said.
