Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded South Kalimantan experienced a 0.05 percent deflation in July 2018.
Head of BPS South Kalimantan Diah Utami in Banjarbaru on Wednesday said the deflation is a combination of Banjarmasin and Tanjung. Deflation occurred in Banjarmasin 0.12 percent, while Tanjung experienced 0.94 percent inflation.
"The cumulative inflation rate in Banjarmasin in July against December 2017 was 1.56 percent, while the cumulative inflation rate in Tanjung was 3.36 percent," she said.
The highest deflation shares in Banjarmasin included air transportation, shallots, snakehead (haruan) fish, papuyu fish (climbing perch), and biscuits.
While commodities that experienced price increases with the highest inflation share were chicken meat, chicken eggs, cellphone prepay, gasoline and fried chicken.
"The 0.05 percent deflation caused a decline in the consumer price index from 133.31 in June to 133.15 in July," she told.
She said deflation in Banjarmasin was due to the decline in the price index in the transport, communication and financial services group by 5.68 percent.
Meanwhile, in Tanjung 0.94 percent inflation caused the rise in the consumer price index (CPI) from 133.66 in June to 134.91 in July.
Inflation occurred due to an increase in the foodstuffs group price index 2.53 percent, processed food group 0.29 percent, housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel 0.69 percent, health group 0.23 percent, education and recreation, sports 0.14 percent and the transport group 0.42 percent.
BPS also recorded the consumer price index in 82 cities, 68 cities experiencing inflation and 14 deflation with the highest deflation in Ambon 1.45 percent.
