Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - A total of 19 teams participated in a rowing competition titled "Justitia Rowboat Competition V Regional Kalimantan" held by Mapala Justitia, Faculty of Law, University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM), Friday (27/7) at Martapura River Siring Piere Tendean Banjarmasin.


"This year's event is followed by a number of mapala (student nature lovers) from various universities, both in South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan," said Chief Executive Poppy Octasari.

According to Poppy, rowboat race as a form of preserving Banjar culture which one of them about life in the river.

"We as students nature lovers certainly want to contribute to the preservation of nature and waters of the areas that its life and culture need to be preserved," she explained.

Assistant I of the South Kalimantan Provincial Government H Siswansyah who is also of the local board of Indonesian Rowing Sports Association (PODSI) appreciated the championship as very positive to foster the spirit of sport among students.

"Moreover, the rowing sport is considered as a tradition of Banjar, as participants use small boat or jukung, of course very good upholding local wisdom," said Siswansyah who represents South Kalimantan Governor H Sahbirin Noor.
