Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - South Kalimantan Regional Police Chief Brigadier General Rachmat Mulyana ordered police, especially
traffic police, to secure the route of mudik, the annual Idul Fitri exodus, in order to suppress the potential of traffic accidents.


"I ordered when the travelers are getting crowded, the police must go down more to the streets," he remarked on Wednesday.

To secure the Idul Fitri holiday season, the South Kalimantan Regional Police (Polda) together with all police resorts (polres) launched Operation Ketupat Intan 2018. It will run for 18 days, starting June 7 to June 24, 2018.

The ceremony for the launching of the integrated police operation held at the Banjarmasin City Police headquarters. On the occasion, the police chief revealed the successor of the operation, according to Chief of National Traffic Police Coordinator, judging from the decreasing number of traffic accidents. To anticipate, the police must go down to the road to secure the flow and set traffic to maximum.

"Banners warning and appeal should also be installed at a number of points considered vulnerable to traffic accident, including direction to rest area so that riders or driver can take a break off tired," he explained.

Police Chief also appealed to travelers, especially those who ride personal vehicle, to check the condition of the vehicle, including not overload the excess load.

"For motorcycles to ride a small child, please also give the baby a helmet, then the vehicle must be according to its designation, for example a open pick up truck should not be taken to transport people," he stressed.

Meanwhile, South Kalimantan Police Director of Traffic Sr Comr E Zulpan added, as many as 725 personnel involved in Operation Ketupat Intan this year. They consisted of 200 of Polda and 525 personnel of Regional Units.

A total of 17 security posts, 12 service posts, and integrated posts in nine sites are established to provide a sense of security to travelers and people celebrating Idul Fitri or the so called Lebaran.
