Banjarmasin (Antaranews South Kalimantan) - A dozen tons of snakehead fish (locally known as iwak haruan) each week enter the fish market in Banjarmasin, the capital of South Kalimantan.

One of the suppliers H Masrani (58) said it on his way from Banjarmasin to Barabai, capital of Central Hulu Sungai (about 165 kilometers) on Wednesday.

He himself claimed to supply a dozen tons of haruan to the "city of a thousand rivers" Banjarmasin every week.

"No included other supplier, no less than five, to meet the consumption needs of iwak haruan," said the old man who lived in Mantaas, Subdistrict of North Labuan Amas, HST, when replied AntaranewsKalsel.

He said haruan, including iwak tauman (a giant snakehead fish) came from a fishery business in East Kalimantan.

East Kalimantan seems to be quite successful in developing the cultivation of haruan and tauman. They have a large-scale business, continued thegrandfather of six grandchildren. While in South Kalimantan, which is consisting of 13 districts and cities, haruan and tauman have not been massively cultivated.

In fact, South Kalimantan also has a public water area that is potential for the development of freshwater fishery business, such as North Hulu Sungai (HSU), HST, South Hulu Sungai (HSS) and Tapin, said Masrani.
