Tanjung, S Kalimantan (Antaranews South Kalimantan) - The Technical Implementation Unit of the Tabalong Forest Management Unit (UPT-KPH) distributes 10,000 seedlings to support Earth Day celebrations in the district.
Head of UPT KPH Tabalong Heryadi in Tanjung, Tuesday, said the seeds of mahogany and trembesi were distributed to Perkumpulan Pusaka (Heritage Society) as the 7 Days Earth Festival organizer.
The seeds have given, he said, are of central government aid taken from the permanent seeding of Banjarbaru River Basin Management Center (BPDAS).
"The assistance is handed over to the Heritage Society to support Earth Day commemoration and alloted to various institutions and other community elements," explained Heryadi.
Director of the Heritage Society Firman Yusi said the 7 Days For Earth Festival aims to save the earth by inviting all elements of society to protect the environment.
"We invite all elements of society to do something as a form of love to the earth," he explained.
Further seedlings are distributed to festival participants from schools, villages, sub-districts, and government agencies who are ready to organize the tree planting in their neighborhoods.
Earth Day Festival is held from 16 to 22 April 2018 one of which invites people to plant trees at least 2 seeds for each person.
"Including applying a smokeless day for active smokers to maintain health," he said.
