Tanjung, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - A total of five sambars (Cervus Unicolor) have been survived in the cultivation of PT Pertamina EP Asset V Tanjung Field, Tabalong, South Kalimantan.


According to one employee, Dharmansyah, the five of Kalimantan's rare animals have been able to adjust to the environment in the cultivation area.

"Usually sambar deer live in forests or watery areas, but this wildlife can develop well in Pertamina's breeding," said Dharmansyah in Tanjung on Thursday.

In addition to getting the food in the form of grass and banana skin on a regular basis, the animals whose commonly living in groups are also monitored.

According to PT Pertamina public relations staff Devanty Puri Kencana, the company brought in a veterinarian from the local Agriculture Agency to find out the condition of the deer every month.

"This breeding was built since 2013 and now can cultivate Sambar as an effort of Pertamina in supporting the preservation of endangered species," said Devanty.

In the area of approximately 2,000 square meters of this wildlife breeding presence known as the brackish becomes a means of education and recreation of local residents.

Earlier in June 2013, Pertamina together with the South Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) signed a memorandum of understanding to build Sambar cultivation in the area of Pertamina Tanjung Complex.

Originally only one pair of sambar deer in captivity, but in April 2016 born a fawn named Olong (according to the Tabalong District). Finally, there are now five sambar deer successfully cultivated.
