Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs opened the ASEAN Study Center (PSA) at the Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM).

ULM Rector Prof Dr. H Sutarto Hadi and Secretary of Ministry's Directorate General of ASEAN Cooperation Ashariyadi signed the MoU at ULM Rectorate Building in Banjarmasin on Monday.

Sutarto Hadi appreciated the signing of the MoU while underscoring that cooperation is one of the important contributions of ULM in education.

The Rector appealed to the ULM students to better understand ASEAN's potential and contribute to raising public awareness and competitiveness in the era of the ASEAN Community.

"This is an effort of ULM to continue to strengthen the international cooperation network. For the ASEAN we have cooperated with several countries, including Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand in various forms, such as joint seminars, student exchange to FKIP ULM students who practice teaching in overseas schools," he explained.

In the future, added Sutarto, ULM wants to open the Study Program of International Relations with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, of course, to help realize it.

The PSA is an institution that conducts research, consultation, and publications to promote ASEAN to a wide range of stakeholders in South Kalimantan.

Ashariyadi asserted this cooperation has an important value given the abundant natural resources potential of South Kalimantan and the opportunity to penetrate the ASEAN market.

Cooperation with ULM is the 52nd ASEAN among universities spread from Banda Aceh to Ambon.

After the signing of the MoU, Ashariyadi had the opportunity to be a speaker at the Guest Lecture with the theme "ASEAN 50: Achievements and Challenges" in front of the student
representatives from various faculties.
