Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Head of South Kalimantan Agriculture Agency Fathurrahman said food production from various regions in the province during 2017 is abundant due to land expansion and increased use of agricultural technology. 


Since the last two years, according to him, the provincial and district governments have been focusing on developing various agricultural and food crop, through various technology development programs and the development of other supporting facilities.

"As a result, the production of food crops and horticulture in 2016-2017 rose significantly compared to 2015," he said

In 2017, South Kalimantan's rice production reached 2,415,286 tons of dry-mill rice (GKG) up 12.85 percent or 275,010 tons compared to 2015 of 2,140,276 tons.

The data is supported by increasing planted area (LTT) of 73,649 ha or 14.48 percent from 508,457 ha in 2015 to 582,106 ha in 2017.

The increase in production is particularly supported by the agricultural sector of Tapin District with a production of 339,504 tons or contribution of 14.67 percent.

In addition, Barito Kuala produced 334,345 tons with a contribution of 14.45 percent and Central Hulu Sungai with 286,617 tons or 12.39 percent.

Other food crop sectors also increased significantly, including the production of corn, onion, red chilies and cayenne pepper.

Corn production increased by 176,648 tons of dry grain corn (JPK) up 137.46 percent from 128,505 tons (2015) to 305,153 tons JPK (2017).

The contribution of the largest increase in corn production came from Tanah Laut 115.834 tons or 58.39 percent, then Kotabaru with production of 49.296 tons or 24.85 percent

Meanwhile, onion production increased 2,312 tons (266.67 percent) from 867 tons (2015) to 3,179 tons (2017). Production of red or big chilli rose 2,183 tons (36.98%) from 5,908 tons (2015) to 8,086 tons (2017). The production of chili rose 4.836 tons (99.12%) from 4,879 tons (2015) to 9,715 tons (2017).

According to him, the success cannot be separated from the support of all parties, especially the guidance and the amount of support for programs, activities, and budget of the state budget (APBN) and local budget (APBD).

"I hope that in addition to increasing the new area of planting land, the synergy that has been built is maintained and enhanced among the central government, provincial, city, districts, TNI, Polri, related stakeholders and the community," he said.
