Amuntai, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The people of North Hulu Sungai (HSU) are the third largest fish consume in South Kalimantan with the consumption of 50 kilograms per capita per year, the local official said.


Head of the HSU Fisheries Agency Muhammad Suriani in Amuntai on Monday said the love to eat fish movement (Gemarikan) continues to be encouraged in addition to efforts to increase fish production and eradicate illegal fishing.

"One of the Joint Fisheries Business Group (KUB) of catching fishery in HSU even became the first winner of South Kalimantan level, namely KUB Asa Tamara of Pajukung Hilir Village, Babirik Subdistrict," said Suriani.

In a row to the 4th National Fish Day (Harkanas) this year his agency is determined to increase fish production and consumption among HSU society considering the benefits of consuming fish for health and intelligence.

In addition, he said, the increase of fishery production will also increase the welfare of fishermen considering the fishery sector is very appropriate to develop in the district because almost 90 percent of its territory consists of swamp waters.

HSU Regent expects fish production to continue to be developed, including in Banjang Subdistrict, where fish seed centers are located. The Regent urges parents to accustomed fish consumption in the family, especially for children because it can improve health and intelligence.

The Regent also requested the Fisheries Agency to popularize the slogan "Mantap" which became the vision of the Regent and vice-regent in building the district forward. The goal is fishermen are motivated to improve fishery activities so that they are more advanced, independent, productive, prosperous and religious according to the abbreviation of Mantap.

Meanwhile, the Fish Seed Center (BBI) of Banjang Sub-district symbolically handed over the grant of fishery facilities and infrastructure to a number of fishery farmer groups, as well as the assistance of water control facilities to prevent illegal fishing.

Here BBI submitting the competition prizes to Joint Fisheries Business Group (KUB) Asa Tamara who got coaching money Rp35 million from the South Kalimantan provincial government.
