Rantau, South Kalimantan, 29/9 (AntaranewsKalsel) - Onion from the farmers of Tapin District, South Kalimantan, is ready to be exported to Vietnam through an investor belonging to the Indonesian Onion Seed Association (APBMI).

Regent Tapin Arifin Arpan in Rantau on Friday said the onion export plan is one of the answers to the concerns of farmers who complain of difficulties in marketing their agriculture products.

"Many complaints of onion farmers about the difficulty of marketing the onions, so I immediately conveyed to the Minister of Agriculture, and immediately get a response," said Regent Arifin during a field meeting of onion harvest in the area of Agricultural Technology Park (TTP) Harapan Masa Village, South Tapin.

According to the Regent, when hearing the problems of farmers, Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman guaranteed there will be an investor who readies to buy the onion from Tapin origin to be exported to Vietnam.

Sometime after the meeting, one of the investors who joined in the Indonesian Onion Seed Association (APBMI) came to Tapin to see the quality of farmers' onion.

"With the opening of an onion export door, I hope the onion farmers to be more spirited and further improve the quality of onion," he said.

Secretary of Tapin Agriculture Agency Wagimin said Tapin onion will be ready for export to Vietnam in 2018.

"Probably in the second harvest. It is likely in February," he said when he was met in an activity in Beramban Village, Piani Sub-district, Tapin.

He said Tapin targeted to export a thousand tons of onion, after meeting the local market demand, especially in Kalimantan.
