Vice Regent: Avoid burning postharvest land

Martapura, South Kalimantan 16/9 (AntaranewsKalsel) - Vice Regent of Banjar, South Kalimantan, Saidi Mansyur urged people to avoid burning postharvest agricultural land so as not to cause land fires in the area.

"Postharvest burning should be avoided, thus preventing adverse impacts such as land and surrounding fires," he said in Martapura on Saturday.

He said people should be aware that burning land, especially postharvest, will create the effects of haze that usually occurs the next day.

On the other hand, postharvest burning on agricultural land does not bring any benefit to soil fertility, so it is hoped that the community and farmers to realize it.

"Our hope is that people and farmers can be wise by not burning the postharvest land, maybe harvest can be used at home and not burned on agricultural land," he said.

According to him forest and land fires, including in the agricultural area, became the attention of Banjar District because of the bad impact caused the fire.

Moreover, he said, Banjar is still hit by the dry season so that forest and land fires can cause problems such as the emergence of smog.

"Smog is a threat that can disrupt various sectors of life so that forest and land fires are a concern not to be deliberate," he said.

He said he had reviewed the integrated main post for prevention and control of forest and land fires at the Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Office on Wednesday (13/9).

"We see personnel consisting of various integrated elements are ready to face forest and land fires, including equipment will be used in case of fire," he said.
