Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan, Aug 11 (AntaranewsKalsel) - Two hundred Muslim personalities from Indonesia, Malaysia and France held an International Conference on Islamic Universities (ICIU) 2017 in Banjarmasin City, South Kalimantan Province, to discuss the uniqueness of Islamic sciences and its contribution to the western world.


During the meeting held from August 9-11, Fauzi Asri, Rector of the National Islamic University (UIN) Antasari, said that the aim of the conference was to integrate the religious teachings and modern sciences of Islam.

"Science and technology that developed in the Western world are derived from the Islamic world, so we need to re-integrate the two as an effort to keep up with the times," he noted.

During the conference, Fauzi added that the Muslim personalities from Indonesia, Malaysia and France would explain their experience in dealing with the current situation in which religion seemed to contradict with mundane matters.

In addition to the religious sciences, the National Islamic Universities, which are located in several provinces across the country, also offers science and technology study programs.
