Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalel) - Some children in Jalan Putri Jaleha, Gang Kalimas, South Baharu Village, Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, found a crocodile in their playground.


"Sunday (9/7) afternoon at around five-thirty, some children coming to report seeing a crocodile in the river," said Adi Ansyari, chairman of Neighborhood Unit (RT) 13, South Baharu Village, Wednesday.

Some adults then came to the location. A one-and-a-half-meter crocodile was seen sunbathing in the shallow part of the river.

"The crocodile was finally captured and we together with community leaders here agreed to secure it," he said as well.

People were busy coming to see and took pictures with the reptile, considering the first time the discovery of crocodiles occurred in this region.

"Moreover, the river here is still used for children to play and mothers to wash, so after this incident, the residents are a bit nervous. We hope that the relevant parties will immediately observe the river situation," said Adi.

Subsequently, residents agreed to submit the reptile to the relevant government agencies. Residents contacted the Fire and Rescue Agency (DPKP).

By DPKP officer, the crocodile was then submitted to the representative office of Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) in Kotabaru. 

Allegedly, the crocodile is a type of estuarine crocodile that belongs to protected wildlife category.

Allegedly the crocodile is a pet that is detached from the cage, because of it condition looks well groomed and looks benign.
