Tanah Bumbu intensifies waste bank program

Batulicin, South Kalimantan 5/8 (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Government of Tanah Bumbu, South Kalimantan, is trying to intensify the waste bank program with the aim of getting residents not to throw garbage carelessly.

Head of Environmental Agency (DLH) Erno through the Secretary Zulkarni in Batulicin Saturday said there are actually three garbage banks that operate from 2010. These garbage banks are located in Simpang Empat and Batulicin Subdistrict.

"In recent years only two active waste banks are still running the program, the garbage bank in Barokah Village and Gunung Tinggi Village," he said.

While in the Village of Gunung Besar, Simpang Empat Sub-district, previously the management is also active but the program is not running.

One of the causes was the lack of consciousness of the local community with the program. Their most waste thrown into temporary disposal sites (TPS). In addition, the lack of population in the village, then garbage managed by the waste bank is not enough to cover operating costs.

"Currently, the government is still discussing the budget to pay the garbage officer's honorarium, because the existing officers only get wages from the profits managed by the garbage bank," he said.

If the budget can be realized, the garbage bank officer can get a fixed salary from the local government and no longer need to rely on garbage from the community.

The local government is also intensifying the garbage alms program. This program needs support from the whole community. If the residents have unused goods, such as scrap plastic, cardboard, iron, or waste can be used as organic fertilizer does not need to be thrown into the TPS, simply hand over to the manager, so the garbage can be recycled and used.
