Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Governor Sahbirin Noor invites the people of South Kalimantan to pay zakat (obligatory charity) through the National Zakat Board of Indonesia (BAZNAS) as an effort to maximize the benefits of zakat in eradicating poverty.


In the launching of South Kalimantan Movement for Zakat Awakening program in Banjarmasin on Tuesday, the governor said zakat has been proved to be one of the programs that encourage poverty eradication in the region.

So it should continue to be encouraged for the benefits of zakat can be managed optimally and professionally, through competent institutions in managing and distributing zakat to the right target.

"I'm sure most of the people have paid zakat, but still alone, not well organized, so the benefits can not be seen significantly to eradicate poverty in the region," he said.

Thus, he added, through the awakening zakat program of the South Kalimantan Provincial Government fully supports the optimization of zakat, infaq and shadaqah (alm) management through BAZNAS.

According to the governor, the appreciation of BAZNAS South Kalimantan program as a form of implementation of Act No.23/2011 on the Management of Zakat.

As a concrete step, the Governor issued a Letter of Instruction No.0867/2016 on the Establishment of Zakat Collecting Unit (UP2) and Optimization of Infaq, Sadaqah, and Zakat Collection in South Kalimantan Provincial Government, vertical institution, BUMN (state-owned enterprises), and BUMD (city or district-owned enterprises).

Previously, the governor issued a circular on Friday Alm Movement for the head of the Regional Organization Unit (SOPD), the head of the vertical agency, the BUMN and the BUMD with an alm value of Rp2,000.
