Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - South Kalimantan Police Chief (Kapolda) Brigadier General Rachmat Mulyana revealed police have secured 42 provocateurs who allegedly caused riots in Banjarbaru Penitentiary on Monday (24/7).


According to the police chief, when attending silaturrahmi of regional military commander (Pangdam) VI/Mulawarman with South Kalimantan Provincial Government in Mahligai Pancasila building on Tuesday, 36 from 42 provocateurs were transferred to Karang Intan Drug Prison.

"So the (alleged) provocateurs are 36 prisoners, the other six are detainees, all then 42. We secured them on suspicion of being provocateurs of the riot in Banjarbaru Prison," he said.

He explained, chronologically the occurrence of riot caused by mutual mocks between inmates in block F of drug cases with the criminals prisoners in block E.

"The report said, block F inmates often ridiculed the inmates of block E. The event suddenly ulminated at lunch on Monday, four block E inmates torturing block F inmates," he said.

The small disputes, he said, had been settled by the prison authority, but it did not into the blocks. Until 18.30 pm there was an effort to attack each other between blocks.

"Even the block F inmates have made six-doors break to attack the inmates in block E," he said.

As the incident began to precarious, police chief explained, he then ordered Brimob and Sabhara troops also Banjarbaru police to secure the prison from major riots.

"Because of the alertness of our troops to do security, finally at about 1:00 am all under control," he said.

Until now, he said, police personnel remain on alert in Banjarbaru Prison, to be completely safe and controlled, and there is no lead to riot again.

"For the time being only one prisoner injured," he said.

From his observations in Banjarbaru Prison there are few SOPs that are not implemented with the founding of a number of sharp weapons, mobile phones, even bongs and zenith pills.

"The results of the search in the prison I have conveyed to the head of local office of Ministry of  Law and Human Rights (Kakanwil Kemenkumham) in order the prison's SOP to be applied better," he said.
