Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan - Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded economic growth in South Kalimantan in the first quarter of 2017 experienced 5.33 percent growth, an increase compared to the same period the previous year.


"The South Kalimantan's economic growth of 5.33 percent is increased compared to the growth in the fourth quarter 2016 of 4.38 percent," said Head of South Kalimantan BPS Diah Utami in Banjarbaru, Friday.

She said the economy in South Kalimantan in the first quarter of 2017 was measured by the amount of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) which reached Rp36.48 trillion above the fourth quarter of Rp37, 72 trillion.

According to her, if compared to the previous quarter the South Kalimantan's economy growth is contracted -4.28 percent and from the production side decreased in three categories.

In terms of production, the largest contribution to the decline was due to the declining growth of agriculture and forestry categories, large trade and construction categories.

"The decline in agriculture category -11.25 percent, trade -8.77 percent and construction -9.93 percent, the largest contraction on the government's consumption -38.44 percent," she said.

GRDP by business field shows all categories grow positive, except the category of government administration, defense and social security and financial services.

"The three categories contributed to the huge growth sources of mining and quarrying 1.45 percent, agriculture 0.77 percent and large and retail trade 0.65 percent," he said.

Meanwhile, GRDP by expenditure is positive growth in all expenditure components except the component of government consumption expenditure (PKP).
