Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan, May 2 (Antara) - South Kalimantan reported an increase in exports and imports in March 2017 from the previous month.

Its exports rose 32.74 percent to US$659.50 million from February in the same year, head of the provincial office of the Central Bureau of Statistic (BPS) Diah Utami said here on Tuesday.

Its main export commodities included mineral fuel valued at US$524.10 million followed by animal oils and fats and timber products.

"The main export destinations included China to which exports were valued at US$210.87 million , India to which exports were valued at US$123.44 million and Japan to which exports were worth US$111.90 million ," Diah said.

Its imports in March were valued at US$140.61 million up 19.03 percent from February in 2017 , and rising 90.62 percent from the same period in 2016.

Its import commodities include mineral fuels valued at US$132.06 million , machinery and mechanical equipment valued at US$4.89 million and fertilizers valued at US$0.80 million.

"The countries of origin of imports included Singapore from which imports were valued at US$132.19 million, South Korea from which imports were valued at US$4.31 million and Japan from which imports were valued at US$1.27 million," Diah said.

The trade balance of South Kalimantan has continued to show a surplus reaching US$518.88 million up from US$378.71 million in February.

"Cumulatively the surplus in the first three months of the year totaled US$1,432.97 million, up from US$983.44 million in the same period last year. ***3*** (AS/H-YH)
