Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Kotabaru Family Welfare Movement (TP-PKK) supports the district government programs to achieve food self-sufficiency by distributing 1,250 chilli seeds.


Vice Chairman of TP-PKK Kotabaru Siti Mariani Burhanuddin here on Tuesday said the chilli seeds giving away also to supports program of the Minister of Agriculture who launched the planting of 50 million chili throughout Indonesia.

"Through home gardens, schools, offices and other buildings, we are striving for food self-sufficiency, especially various spices, including chili which is a source of inflation in Indonesia," she said.

Utilizing house yard to plant chili is a real step to overcome the problem of high prices of chili that occur each year.

Planting chili can also increase revenue as a result of savings in household spending.

"Planting chili is also one of our programs to improve the welfare of the community, as it reduces household spending," she added.

She said, Kotabaru distributed approximately 1,250 chilli seeds to 21 PKK sub-districts. The seeds obtained from TP-PKK cooperation with the Food Security Agency and the help of South Kalimantan province.
