Combating Drugs in Prisons

Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalimantan) - The South Kalimantan Narcotics Agency (BNNP) together with the Regional Office of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) agreed to combat drug trafficking in prisons and detention center in the province.

It was announced during a working visit by a newly appointed Head of BNNP Senior Commissioner Police Marsauli Siregar accompanied by Head of Rehabilitation dr. Sandra Munthy to the Regional Office of Kemenkumhan here, Monday.

They were welcomed by Head Office of Kemenkumham South Kalimantan Imam Suyudi together with Administration Division Chief Kemas HZ and Division Head of Legal Services and Human Rights unan Pribadi.

"The purpose of my arrival here as self-introduction and to discuss cooperation of combating drug in South Kalimantan, especially in prisons, which has been running well," said Marsauli who has served as principal investigator of the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim).

Imam Suyudi said it will always favor drug eradication in South Kalimantan, especially in prisons by improving the security system and other facilities to tighten the entry of the illicit goods.

Currently, he added, Banjarbaru prisons, Karang Intan prisons, and Kotabaru prisons have become a rehabilitation center for drug addicts, and the operational implementation is in collaboration with BNNP South Kalimantan.

Head of the Division of Administration Kemas HZ said coordination has been established so far is expected to gives good impact for both side and can achieve drug free Indonesia.

During 2016 some 200 people have been rehabilitated, namely 46 in Narcotics Prison Class IIB Karang Intan, 40 in Class IIB Kotabaru Prison and 114 others in Class III Banjarbaru Prison.

Meanwhile, in 2015, a total of 287 people rehabilatated consisting of 126 in Karang Intan and 61 in Kotabaru.
