Hilir Muara Village, Pulau Laut Sigam Sub-district, of the Kotabaru District, South Kalimantan, received an award and appreciation from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) as the third winner of the 2024 National Safe Food Village Competition.

The award was handed over by the Agency's Director of Community Empowerment and Processed Food Business Actors Ema Setyawati at the BPOM Office in Jakarta.

"The award and appreciation was presented in the series of Community Movement for Healthy Living Aware of Safe Food (Sapa) Program," said Head of Kotabaru Health Office Erwin Simanjuntak here on Tuesday.

The assessment of the competition, he said, was held from February to May, 2024 involving team of assessors from Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, Home Affairs Ministry, Agriculture Ministry, Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Ministry, Health Ministry,  the National Population and Family Planning Coordination Board (BKKBN), the National Food Agency (Bapanas), and BPOM.

"There were several winners of the competition. First place was won by a village from Bali, the second from Mamuju," he said.

Erwin acknowledged that this achievement was achieved thanks to the support and commitment of the Kotabaru Regent Sayed Jafar, which was stated in the agreement between BPOM and the district government in monitoring food safety.

Supervision on food home industry, so as not to use hazardous materials, Health Living Community Movement (Germas), food poisoning KLB (extraordinary event) handling, as well as sanitation facilities in public area.

Meanwhile, coaching were carried out for three villages in GKPD (Village Food Security Movement) program, namely Tegal Rejo, Sebelimbingan, and Hilir Muara in 2023. 

"Hilir Muara Village was then proposed to take part in selection of the National Safe Food Village Competition," said Erwin

The coaching of Hilir Muara Village for the national competition was involved BPOM Banjarmasin, Loka POM or technical implementation unit of Tanah Bumbu, Health Office, and the Office of Women Empowerment, Child Protection and Family Planning. 

So were Fisheries Office, Food Security and Agriculture Office, Environment Office, Community and village Empowerment Office, Head of Pulau Laut Sigam Sub-district, Polytechnic, PT Arutmin, Mubadala Energy, Head of Hilir Muara Village, and Chairwoman of Hilir Muara TP PKK.
