The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on Tuesday inaugurated an electric vehicle (EV) battery factory in Tangerang, Banten, to bolster e-motorcycle conversions and net-zero emission efforts, which are among the national priorities.
"The battery factory is one of our milestones, after three years, to develop the electric motorcycle program in Indonesia," director of planning and infrastructure development for new, renewable energy, and energy conservation at the ministry, Senda Hurmuzan Kanam, said on Tuesday.
The official expressed gratitude to PT Battery Technology Indonesia (TWS Indonesia) for investing in the development of PT TDL Energy Indonesia (TDL ID), the Tangerang factory inaugurated by the ministry on Tuesday.
He highlighted that the TDL ID factory is the first battery factory to achieve a 20-percent domestic component level (TKDN) in its first operation year.
"The factory becomes the first to achieve such a high TKDN score, and we hope its TKDN will increase to 27 percent by next year," Kanam said.
He expressed the hope that investment in the electric motorcycle battery factory would help Indonesia develop its EV ecosystem.
