A total 24 inmates in South Kalimantan are confirmed to be free on Eid 2024 of 1445 Hijriah after they receive a special remission (RK) on religious day.

"There is also one child inmate who will be free without having to under go subsidies, fines and compensation," said Head of the South Kalimantan Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Taufiqurrakhman in Banjarmasin, Friday.

The inmates to be free because they are granted a special remission II (RK II) which mean reducing their sentence beyond their remaining sentence.

Meanwhile, there are 7,304 prisoners who will receive RK I or a reduced sentence not exceeding the remaining sentence.

A total of 7,355 Muslim WBP (inmates) and 32 anak binaan (child inmates) were proposed to receive Eid remission on consideration they were assessed as meeting some certain requirements.

Taufiqurrakhman said that granting remission is a  concrete manifestation of the state's presence to ensure that citizens' rights are fulfilled, including for those who are involved in legal cases.

Granting remission is also to provide motivation and encouragement for inmates and child inmates to improve themselves to become better individuals.

“Of course the happy momentum of Eid is also entitled to be felt by inmates and child inmates by giving remission to those who behave well and take part in coaching program,” he said.
