South Kalimantan Provincial Government through Plantation and Livestock Office (Disbunnak) carried out monitoring and evaluation (monev) program of intercropping oil palm with food crops (Kesatria).

Intercropping oil palm with gogo rice was a direction of Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman for food security and to deal with the impact of climate change, namely by optimizing plantation with food crops such as rice, maize, and horticulture.

Head of Disbunnak Suparmi said here on Tuesday that intercropping activities were carried out to optimize the productivity of immature oil palm (TBM) land to increase income for planters.

Suparmi, who was with a team from Directorate General of Plantation in monev, appreciated the Tanah Laut Food Crops, Horticulture, and Plantation Office and Planters Institute for driving the Kesatria program.

“On behalf of Governor of South Kalimantan Sahbirin Noor, I would like to express my thanks to all parties  who have supported this program,” said Suparmi.

This activity is not just planting rice, corn, or horticulture, she said, but is a for of joint commitment to making South Kalimantan prosperous, welfare and sustainable as the gateway to the national capital.

Planting rice, maize, and horticulture on people's immature oil palm land in Tanah Laut is one of the Ministry's strategies through collaboration between Directorate General of Plantation and Directorate General of Food Crops involving provincial and district government and related stakeholders.

The aim is to provide income to planters during the immature of oil palm plants and to increase food crop production as an effort to meet food availability for the Indonesia people.
