The Provincial Government of South Kalimantan has declared an alert for COVID-19 to maximize handling and prevent widespread transmission.

Head of Disease Prevention and Control of the South Kalimantan Health Office Anhar Ihwan here on Monday said that some cases have been confirmed positive in the province.

The regional government, he said, has issued a circular letter to districts, cities, and health facilities, such as hospitals, puskesmas (community health centers), laboratories, and Port Health Office (KKP) to be alert to the spread of COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, all of his ranks, he said, are now monitoring the development of the situation at every place and to report it if COVID-19 case is found.

"If a case is found, it is requested to carry out laboratory examination using RDT-Ag COVID-19 or RT-PCR, and close contact tracing," he said.

Anhar asked KKP to identify vaccination status of foreign travelers before departure. They are recommended to complete COVID-19 vaccination dose, both primary and booster.

"KKP is also asked to increase supervision of travelers, especially (from) regions or countries that are experiencing spike in cases and those showing clinical symptoms of COVID-19 or influenza like sickness," said Anhar.

Although it has only a stock of 1,300 doses of vaccine, the Health Office ensures that vaccine stocks is still available at puskesmas which are facilitated to carry out free vaccination in all districts and cities in South Kalimantan.

“It is hoped that people who have not been vaccinated to immediately get vaccinated at health facilities," he said.

Data from Health Office showed that 43 people were confirmed positive for COVID-19 and 16 of them are undergoing treatment.
