Martapura, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Floating Market Lok Baintan in Banjar district, designated as intangible cultural heritage and become one of the cultural tourist destination has been known to foreign countries.


Vice Regent of Banjar Saidi Mansyur in Martapura on Sunday said a certificate had been received stating that the floating market as one of the national tourist destination.

"The certificate stating the (Lok Baintan) floating market as an intangible cultural heritage submitted to the South Kalimantan Regional Secretary Arsyadi in Floating Market Cultural Festival in Banjarmasin, Friday (16/9)," he said.

He explained that the certificate from the Ministry of Education and Culture is proper, because the floating market of Lok Baintan is one of the iconic cultural tourism of Banjar district.

"Lok Baintan is widely renowned in South Kalimantan to foreign countries. so it crowded with tourists, especially early morning when the bustling market activity," he said about the Lok Baintan which is located in Sungai Pinang Village, Sub-district of Sungai Tabuk.

He said Lok Baintan floating market is not much different to the floating market in the estuary of the Kuin, Barito River, both are equally traditional markets on jukungs (traditional boats).

According to him, the floating market of Lok Baintan has been going on since the days of the Sultanate of Banjar and until now become tourist destination for local and international travelers.

He said, the determination of the intangible cultural heritage of Indonesia is a consequence to the Convention on the UNESCO.

Its existence is recorded by Directorate of Heritage and Cultural Diplomacy of Directorate General of Culture and established as regional cultural work of cultural heritage objects into Indonesia.
