The Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi) Tanah Bumbu branch, South Kalimantan, held Perbasi Cup 2023, a basketball tournament for students, to scout potential young athletes.

Chairman of the Tanah Bumbu branch of Perbasi Dading Kalbuadi here on Thursday said the participants of the tournaments were junior (SMP) and high school (SMA) students.

"welcome all participants, accompanying teachers, and all invited guests for attenting," he said.

Dading really appreciated and expressed his gratitude to all parties who had contributed for the success of the event.

He said the tournament is also to boost the achievement of students in basketball and to build a good relation among students from various schools in the District of Tanah Bumbu.

As many as 18 teams participated in the Perbasi Cup 2023, consisted of eight femate teams and 10 male teams. The tournament lasted for nine days from November 10, 2023.

"Let's uphold sportmanship and fair play in every match. Don't let winning become the main goal. What's more important is improving your skills and experience in basketball," said Dading.

Regent of Tanah Bumbu HM Zairullah Azhar said the local government fully support and appreciated the district Perbasi for providing platform for producing outstanding young people, especially in the field of sports.

According to the regent, there are three benefits that can be obtained from this inter-student basketball match.

"First, developing athletes through competitions. Second, become a place of friendship both among athletes, officials and all parties involved, and the third national economic recovery which has an impact on improving people's economy, especially MSMEs," said Zairullah.

He hopes, as a gathering place for junior and high school students in Tanah Bumbu, this tournament can be held yearly. Thus it helps to improve mental and physical quality that in the future the district will have a quality young generation.
