Tanjung, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Tabalong Environmental Agency (BLHD) implements water resource conservation programs in an effort to prevent flooding, drought, and erosion.
Head of the Division of Environmental Quality Monitoring of Tabalong BLHD Erfansyah in Tanjung on Saturday said the conservation activities is by planting bamboo on the riverside of Masukau village and Kasiau Village in the Sub-district of Murung Pudak.
"We allocated 500 bamboo to be planted along the riverside in the hope of obtaining a balanced order of water and prevent floods and droughts," he said.
In addition to planting bamboo, BLHD also inventoried and identified the source of the springs in the village of Jaro, Salikung village in Muara Uya, and Panaan village in the sub-district of Bintang Ara.
The activities are expected to anticipate dangerous materials or other hazardous metals in rivers and water resources in the region.
"Until now we have not found mercury or other hazardous metals in the Tabalong river and springs identified," said Erfansyah.
The existence of water sources in the villages, he said, support the provision of drinking water and community based sanitation (Pamsimas) program from the central government.
A total of 12 villages targeted for Pamsimas. Eight villages were partly financed by the state budget and four other villages received funds from the district. Those villages are Kasiau Raya, Bongkang, Mangkupum, Kampung Baru, Uwie, Garunggung, Kembang Kuning, and Bumi Makmur.
