The South Kalimantan Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that forest and land fires has reached 1,437.559 hectares with 4,543 hotspots scattered in 13 districts and cities in the province.

The fires, based on Center for Disaster Management Control Operation (Pusdalops PB) data as of Sunday (August 14, 2023) dominated by Banjarbaru City 554.81 hectares, Tanah Laut District 348.63 hectares, and Banjar District 269.55 hectares.

“Banjarbaru does not dominate the number of hotspot, but fires disaster quite widespread,” said Head of South Kalimantan BPBD Raden Suria Fadliansyah when confirmed in Banjarbaru, Monday night.

Suria said, according to the recorded data, Banjarmasin was the area with the least number of forest and land fires (karhutla), only one hectare, with also the least number of heat sources, namely six hotspots.

The agency together with the joint team has so far handled 529 locations of karhutla, 24 of them covering an area of 96.7 hectares, while 505 other locations of fires totalling 1,340.859 hectares.

The handling of karhutla does not include the latest incidents during the day to night in Banjarbaru.

ANTARA monitoring there were six location of karhutla in Banjarbaru City were handled by the joint team. The areas were well known to the local community, namely Cempaka, Banjarbaru Prison, Pengayuan, Guntung Damar, Pandahan, and Tambak Tarap.
