Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Many travelers through Trisakti Banjarmasin Port this year were caught carrying sharp weapons detected by x-ray machine that scanning their baggages.


"Dozens of sharp weapons were secured by x-ray machine officers from travellers," said Chief of Seaport (KPL) Banjarmasin Police Commissioner M Fihim here on Saturday.

He said, a lot of sharp weapons were secured as a results of x-ray screening machine which just went into effect at the Trisakti Port. "About 74 weapons we have secured thanks to the x-ray machine," he said.

He said the average travelers who carry weapons were oil palm plantations farmers and sharp weapons brought as souvenirs for their family in the village.

"The type of weapons seized were machete, sword, dagger, bowls and many other types," said the former deputy head of the intelligence unit in Banjarmasin City Police.

Fihim said, actually carrying weapons is prohibited by the laws and regulations of the Minister of Transportation. However, considering this is the Lebaran (Eid season), KPL Banjarmasin Police giving little tolerance by simply confiscating the weapons they carry.

"We still have a spirit of tolerance and humanity because this homecoming season. So any sharp weapons were seized and the person is given a warning, after which he depart for Lebaran," he said.
