The Provincial Government of South Kalimantan is fixing roads and bridges to facilitate access to the orchid-producing village in Loksado, South Hulu Sungai (HSS) District.

“We provide support and attention by improving infrastructure connecting road to this Tumingki Village,” said the South Kalimantan Expert Staff for Government, Law and Politics Sulkan in his remarks at the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) commemoration in the village in South Hulu Sungai District, South Kalimantan, Monday.

Tumingki Village in Loksado Sub-district, which is one of sites of Meratus Geopark, he said, is one of the largest orchid producers in South Kalimantan.

According to him, Governor of South Kalimantan Sahbirin Noor and his staff always open to development of tourism, especially Tumingki which has the potential for regional tourism development.

Here, about 450 orchid plants are being conserved, according to Head of South Kalimantan Environment Agency Hanifah Dwi Nirwana.

Sulkan said, the potential of orchid plants in Tumingki becomes gateway to introduce the area as one of tourist destinations.

However, he said, the continuation of the village potential will be determined by the local community.

“The development of tourism here needs a joint commitment, especially villagers, if they cannot take care of it, the effots we build will be in vain,” he reminded.

The provincial government together with the Regency Government of HSS, he said, will sinergize after looking at the potential of Tumingki Village.

Sulkan ensured that the provincial government always has a commitment to the local potential, moreover this potential can improve the economy of people in the village.

He invited all parties to preserve orchid plants.

The Regent of South Hulu Sungai H Achmad Fikry said it gives full support to the potential of orchid plants in Tumingki Village.

“We will soon discuss the construction of the infrastructure and coordinate with the provincial government,” he said.

Tumingki Village is known for having abundant of orchid plants in its forest.

Amandit River flows in this village with a clear water quality. Along the river bank, many trees overgrown with various kinds of Meratus orchid species.
