The City Government of Banjarmasin stated it seriousness to construct the 8th bridge on Martapura River to connect two areas, Sungai Jingah and Sungai Bilu.

Head of Bridge and Road of the Banjarmasin Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR) Agency Dedy Hamdani here on Saturday said that the plan has been exposed at the hearing with Commission III of the City Legislative Council (DPRD Kota Banjarmasin).

This is important for the council to know the project plan, he said, because the construction of the bridge is estimated to cost IDR96 billion.
 
"That does not include land acquisition which is estimated at IDRp55 billion," he said.
 
If approved by DPRD, he said, the physical construction will begin in 2024.
 
"We are also coordinating with the provincial government so that there will be financial assistance to build the bridge," he said.
 
Dedy stated that the bridge is important to build to break up heavy traffic flow in the two areas, Sungai Jingah in North Banjarmasin and Sungai Bilu in East Banjarmasin.

Head of Commission III Hilyah Aulia acknowledged that the Sungai Jingah-Sungai Bilu bridge has been listed as a priority in the City of Banjarmasin Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMD).
 
"The point is the council supports the construction of the bridge," he said.
 
However, Hilyah said that his party asked for further explanation regarding design and so on for the construction of the bridge, including the mechanism of land acquisition.
 
"We ask for further expose with the the council with clearer picture regarding the construction of this bridge," he said.
 
Hilyah also esured that his commission will visit the bridge construction points to assure proper implementation and the community's approval.
 
"Apart from breaking up traffic congestion, the area is also a religious area. We want to make sure it runs well," he said.
 
His party in the legislature also emphasized that the city government would coordinate with the South Kalimantan Provincial Government or even the central government so that there would be development funding assistance because it use a large enough budget.
