Head of South Kalimantan Environment Agency Hanifah Dwi Nirwana stated that management of Martapura River, one of the largest in the province, continues to be carried out to restore its former glory, especially tourism.

She, at the commemoration of the 2022 World Environment Day on Sunday said the commitment of the provincial goverment to collaborate with districts and cities, that the Martapura River flow through, especially Banjar District and Banjarmasin City, will continue to be improved to handle cleaniness of the river.

The Safe, Clean, Neat, and Beautiful Martapura River (ASRI) program so far has showed the results to encourage people get used to not throwing garbage into the river. This effort was supported by opening 12 waste banks in rural areas on the banks of Martapura River.

At the same time, she said, floating latrines along the river were eliminated, so they no longer polluted the river water.

Othe measures, said Hanifah, is to keep cleanliness of the Martapura River, which upper course at Riam Kanan dam, Banjar District, and empties into Barito River in Banjarmasin, to be maximally achieved.

This is because, she said, the Provincial Government of South Kalimantan together with the districts and cities had met the Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno.

"We asked the minister, just like last year's meeting, to support the ASRI's Martapura River program," she said.

Martapura River is one of the mainstay of South Kalimantan tourism, whereas the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has a tourism agenda this year on Martapura River.

It is in this river the world famous tourist attraction the floating market, one in Lokbaintan, Banjar District, the other in Kuin and the taman siring (river embankment park) of Piere Tendean, Banjarmasin City.

"As our initial goal that is to restore the glory of the Martapura River, especially for tourism," she pointed out.

The other side is river transportation, reforestation, and the river water, because Martapura River is the heart of lives of the local people. Its water is a raw water for clean water needs in Banjarmasin City and its surroundings.
