The Regent of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, Sayed Jafar, and Mamuju, West Sulawesi, Regent Siti Sutinah, in a cooperation on sea toll to boost the regional economy.
"The agreement has been made is a form of the regional government's effort to boost the economy in the region," said Regent Sayed Jafar in West Sulawesi through press statement, Friday.
According to him, the improvement of cooperation on sea transportation between ports is an effort to enhance the economy of the regions.
He hopes the follow-up of the develoment at the stabilization stage to be carried out by both parties, so it can be put into operation immediately by arranging the details and works mechanisms deemed necessary.
Regent Siti Sutinas said the ink of MoU some time ago would have an impact on the growth of the economy in both regions.
"We will soon build facilities so that the benefits can be maximized and later it will have an impact on inter-regional economic growth by openiong access to sea transportation," she pointed out.
According to her, with the opening of inter-island connection there will be a mobility of people and goods that have an economic value from various complementary commodities.
Mamuju District already has port facilities to bolster the smooth transportation of passengers and goods at the Belang Port which is located at Kalukku Sub-district.
"Besides Belang Port, Kasiwa Port can also be used for ferries or other ships to dock," she said.
Sutinah hopes that the cooperation in the field of sea transportation will make it easier for the people to obtain food and later will support the development of the new capital city (IKN) of Nusantara Kalimantan.
