The Kotabaru Health Office tested the function and held training on the use of ultrasound (USG) for midwives throughout Kotabaru at the Ratu Intan Building, Kotabaru, South Kalimantan.

"Today we are holding a training on the use of a portable ultrasound device in order all midwives at the community health centers (puskesmas) are able to use it very well," Head of the Kotabaru Health Office Erwin Simanjuntak noted in a statement here on Thursday.

Some 28 midwives took part in the training so they can maximize the utilization of USGs that will be distributed to all puskesmas in the district.

"The aim is to improve maternity care for pregnant women as well as to decrease the problem of stunting from early in Kotabaru," he pointed out.

Chairwoman of the Kotabaru Family Welfare Empowerment Driving Team (TP-PKK) Idiana Sayed Jafar apprecited the activity of testing the function and providing the use of portable USG training.

"I highly appreciate this activity considering USG devices to be distributed to puskesmas so as to facilitate midwives in providng maternity care and to minimize stunting cases in Kotabaru District," said Idiana Sayed Jafar.

Currently, Idiana said, TP-PKK together with the Health Agency, and the Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Agency are intensively conduct socialization to reduce stunting in Kotabaru. 

"We continue to work to reduce stunting in Kotabaru by providing dissemination to the community," she said.

The sourceperson for the functional test and training was Clinical Application Specialist Fariza Mahatma Iriani from PT Arkan Jaya Nusantara, a USG provider for puskesmas in Kotabaru.
