General Manager of PT PLN Region South and Central Kalimantan Purnomo in a press conference in the Hall of PWI (The Indonesian Journalists Association) South Kalimantan on Monday said strategic steps of acceleration absolutely must be done to overcome the crisis or deficit of electric power in the province in the last three months.

Several strategic moves, such as the acceleration of power plant operations of Pulang Pisau 2x60 megawatts and the acceleration of transition of 150 kilovolt lines that will deliver electricity from Gas Engine Power Plant (PLTMG) Bangkanai which has 155 megawatts power capacity.

"Now the whole strength of PLN mobilized to complete the acceleration of work for the two power plants, so that at least in September 2016 both go into Barito System," he said.

In general described, since January 2016 South and Central Kalimantan electricity system suffered deficit following a power plant maintenance in the PLTU Asam-Asam. The total deficit of power, especially during peak hours, reached 68.4 megawatts (MW).

According to him, PLN during normal conditions has 506.1 MW electrical power output with the highest peak load 505.1 MW. While the largest production of one plant is 65 MW, so in general the electrical system in the region has not been reliable.

The condition occurs because since 2013 there is absolutely no additional of new plants, while the completion of the new plant and transmission projects continues to retreat from a set schedule, while subscriber growth is high enough, Purnomo said.

"In addition to the hard work of PLN, the completion of the entire work related to plant and transmission are still constrained at the moment, requires the support of all parties, both government and society," he said.

While waiting for the acceleration of PLTMG Bangkanai and Pulang Pisau power plant, PLN has relocated 30 MW diesel power plant from Bali now has been installed and 20 MW Riau diesel currently on the way to Trisakti Banjarmasin Port.

In the short term to tackle the deficit, he said, PLN purchasing power from private sector, namely from PT Dua Samudra Perkasa 6 MW, PT Cahaya Borneo Success Agrosindo 3 MW, PT CHONC Phase I 10 MW and PT CHONC Phase II 10 MW.
