"The saving can reach 60 percent if using electric motorcycles," the minister said at a press conference on fuel prices at the ministry's office here on Friday.

The electric motorcycles actually can serve as a solution in the midst of the current surge in fuel prices. However, he acknowledged, transportation industry that uses electric batteries has not grown domestically, while and the price of electric vehicles is still relatively high.

Thus, the ministry has launched a program to convert motorcycles that use fuel into electric motorcycles and pushed the acceleration of electric vehicle infrastructure development in the country.

In 2021, the ministry converted 100 motorcycles spread across the ministry's work units in the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) areas.
