Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The South Kalimantan Assembly Council (DPRD) Speaker Hj Noormiliyani Aberani Sulaiman said it depends on central government to determine Meratus as a national park.
Responding a press statement of former Executive Director of National Forum for the Environment (Walhi) Berry Nahdian Furqan on Wednesday, she said it was natural that Meratus proposed as a national park.
"But most important for us how to save Meratus from actions of unresponsible people and its impact on environmental degradation," said the Golkar Party politician.
Because, continued the alumnus of Faculty of Law of Lambung Mangkurat University, the purpose of proposing Meratus as a national park is to preserve the environment in order to avoid disaster.
It also serve as a vehicle of studies, such as research to the development of science, as well as the exact status, both in terms of indigenous rights and other interests, said Noormiliyani.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Environment and Forestry Caucus of DPRD Zulfa Asthma Vikra states do not want any further polemics about the proposal.
But the young politician of the Democratic Party, who hold a master degree of law, intends to follow up the proposal to establish a working group (pokja).
"Working group from various backgrounds (including scientists and experts) that later do research, whether it is feasible or not Meratus as a national park," he said.
