Tanjung, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Rivers in three villages in the sub-district of Banua Lawas, Tabalong, namely Habau, Masintan and Bangkiling have been normalized as the efforts to reduce the narrowing and silting water bodies.

Head of Tabalong Public Works Noor Rifani in Tanjung on Sunday mentioned the increasing number of houses along the riverside became one of the causes of narrowing and silting water bodies.

"The river normalization have completed in a fiscal year 2015, including rehabilitation or maintenance of riverbanks and river embankments in the Banua Lawas," said Noor.

The three villages are flood-prone areas in the rainy season and it was triggered by increasingly shrinking capacity of the river, so that the water flow is slow.

Normalization of the river, said Noor, is an improvement of cross section of river efforts by expanding and deepening the river in order to increase its capacity so as to accommodate the flood discharge.

According to Rahma, a resident of the Habau village, every rainy season the river water overflowed and caused the houses and village roads submerged. Therefore, river normalization is expected to reduce flooding.

In addition to carrying out normalization of the river, the Public Works also built drainage canals, dikes and making floodgates in Banua Lawas.

Previously, Regent Tabalong Anang Syakhfiani during a working visit to the village of Banua Rantau, Banua Lawas, said the normalization of the river will continue in the southern region normally the area to flood.
