Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Head of Banjarmasin Social Affairs and Labor Agency Agus Sorono said he have not heard or received report that there will be a wave of layoffs by large corporations to local workers.


When he was in City Hall on Friday, he said the economy in this area is still stable, and effected the companies existence in the capital of the province are going well. Most companies here engaged in the service sector and trade.

"Until now we have not received any report from the trade unions or companies on the crisis falling on companies in this area to result in bankruptcy," he said.

So far, he explained, there are no such worries concerning massive layoffs due to national economy has not improved. While some multinational corporation rumored to be making a big layoff against their workers.

According to him, the city authorities concerns about the fate of multinational companies that are reported planning to close  factories in Indonesia. If the plan implemented thousands of workers will lose their jobs.

"We seek to protect the rights of workers in this area. The local government will be working anything to make the regional economy remains stable and companies could run well, so no layoffs," he said.

He said about 1,200 companies located in this area most engaged in services and trade, as well as the hospitality and shopping centers. All of them absorb hundreds of thousands of workers.

Banjarmasin, said he, are benefiting as the center lane of the province's economy, where 12 districts and cities also neighboring provinces are concentrated here.
