Deputy Minister of Health Saksono Harbuwono said that COVID-19  transmission is beginning to decline, even though the number of cases is still increasing.

"Although the positivity rate is still high,  starting this week, the cases have started to slow down. Hopefully, we have reached the peak for Jakarta," Harbuwono told the media at the opening of the 2022 World Medical Association Conference in Jakarta on Monday.

On the same day, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Indonesia increased by 1,434. However, the figure shows a decline compared to July 2021, when the number of confirmed COVID-19 patients stood at 1,614.

On July 3, 2022, the national daily person positivity rate stood at 5.14 percent, slightly above the World Health Organization (WHO) threshold of 5 percent.

"We can see that it has started to decline compared to yesterday; it has been looking good in Jakarta," Harbuwono added.

Earlier, at a press conference in Jakarta on Monday, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, announced the extension of community activity restrictions (PPKM) outside Java and Bali from July 5 to August 1.

Hartarto said the decision was made at a limited cabinet meeting on PPKM evaluation, which was chaired by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the State Palace on Monday.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said President Widodo has asked ministers to adopt an innovative social approach to encourage people to get the third or booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

This needs to be done considering that the number of people who have received booster shots is still small in Indonesia at 50,916,428, compared to the number of first and second dose recipients, which has reached 201,565,306 and 169,117,557, respectively.
