Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - South Kalimantan declares floods, landslides and tornado alert status along with the arrival of rainy season since the beginning of 2016.


Head of the South Kalimantan Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Yajie Sugiono said here on Thursday that the determination was stated as the results of the coordination meeting all BPBD from districts and cities in the province on Tuesday (5/1).

"Determination of alert status of floods, landslides, and tornados come into force in the period of January 10 to March 31 2016," he said.

The period can be extended, if necessary, in accordance with the natural conditions that occurred at that time.

According to Sugiono, floods, landslides, and tornados emergency alert status decided over the coming peak of the rainy season and floods that started to hit the region.

BPBDs noted there are at least 95 flood-prone points spread in 13 districts and cities in the province to be anticipated as early as possible due to the rainy season.

In addition to floods, a number of South Kalimantan region are also prone to landslides, and tornados with a number of critical points to reach 66 points.

"Related to that status, the governor had instructed the 13 districts and cities to be alert and take preventive measures to cope with rainy season in each region," he said.

All districts and cities, he said, is expected to prepare a post disaster, personnel involving all relevant agencies, including food logistics stock preparedness and health.

South Kalimantan BPBDs also has installed an early warning system two in North Hulu Sungai, one in the Banjar district and one in Tanah Bumbu.
