Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Taskforce (SKK Migas) targets to drill as many as 790 development wells and 42 exploration wells in 2022.
SKK Migas head Dwi Soetjipto said upstream oil and gas drilling activities are never free from challenges, especially in terms of procurement of goods and services as well as licensing process.
"On the other hand, the Indonesian government has firmly stated that national oil and gas production and lifting must be increased. The commitments to meet these targets cannot be carried out in an ordinary way," he said as reported on Friday.
To ensure the achievement of these targets, SKK Migas held the 2022 Drilling Summit on Wednesday, March 23, 2022.
This is a forum for policy makers and actors in the upstream oil and gas drilling industry to exchange ideas and experiences to resolves various problems thay may hinder the drilling process.
Commitment from all stakeholders, both government and investors, he said, is needed to ensure that drilling as the main activity in increasing oil and gas production can be realized according to the scheduled target.
"In order to stay on track towards the target of 1 million barrels of oil per day (BOPD) in 2030, our current oil production position must be at 670 thousand BOPD and it is expected rise again next year. So whatever is discussed at the Drilling Summit, it must refer to production figures, find and solve problems," Dwi noted in a press release.
SKK Migas noted that as of March 21, 2022, the realization of the number of development wells that had been drilled was 138 wells or 17 percent of the target.
