A member of Kotabaru DPRD Lutfi Ali appealed to all fishermen in Bumi Saijaan (Kotabaru's nickname) to be alert and cautious of high waves that potentially cause disaster when going to the sea.

"Current weather conditions are uncertain, February is the peak of high waves, so be more vigilant before going to sea for fishing," said Lutfi in Kotabaru, Thursday.

He said the Kotabaru Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has warned that in two or three days ahead sea wave heights to reach two meters and could endanger small tonnage fishing boats.

Lutfi Ali also advised the community of Sarangtiung Village to increase alertness when doing activities on their bagan (fishermen structure to catch fish) in the sea.

"This is important to be more vigilant, because a lot of bagan have collapsed hit by high waves in Kotabaru waters, especially in Sarangtiung," he said.
