The South Kalimantan Regional People's Representative Council's (DPRD's) Commission III and and the Tabalong DPRD's Commission III agreed to propose a toll road in a bid to support the gateway of the new national capital (IKN).
In their meeting here on Tuesday (March 1, 2022), chaired by Chairman of Commission III of South Kalimantan DPRD H Sahrujani, Deputy Chairman of Tabalong's Commission III Habib Taufan threw this idea.
"The reason is as the buffer of the new national capital, Central Kalimantan has received 'food estate' project from the central government, East Kalimantan as a new capital get toll road. But South Kalimantan as the gateway for IKN get what, not yet, right," said Habib.
"So it is natural that we expect toll road construction from the central government to support the transportation mobility, both for basic and other needs between East, South, and Central Kalimantan," he pointed out.
This hope is like the proverb "tit for tat" in the meeting which was also attended by the provincial Transportation Office, the National Road Agency (BPJN), and the South Kalimantan Road Transportation Agency.
As a follow-up, both the Commission III agreed to schedule a visit to the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) in Jakarta, early April 2022. The goal is for the central government to build toll roads in the province as the gateways for the new state capital in East Kalimantan.
The meeting also discussed "road predators" which accelerate the damage to provincial roads as well as efforts to overcome them.
