A number of students in Banjarmasin was reported exposed to COVID-19 to cause the city to impose online learning (PJJ) for a week.
Head of Banjarmasin Education Office Totok Agus Daryanto here on Monday, January 31, 2022, confirmed that a number of junior high school (SMP) students were exposed to COVID-19.
"Three SMPs, whose (some of) students were confirmed positive for COVID-19, so online learning was decided to be implemented for a week," he said.
According to him, the three schools were SMPN 1, SMPN 2 and SMPN 19.
"The total number of confirmed students is more than ten, most of them are asymptomatic," he said.
He expounded that the case of students exposed to COVID-19 was believed not to have come from school during face-to-face learning, but from outside the school.
"Maybe our children lack of discipline of health protocols when they were outside school or when they went around," said Totok.
He urged that everyone continue to maintain health protocols. If they haven't been vaccinated, get vaccinated immediately.
Meanwhile, Head of Elementary School Development of the Banjarmasin Education Offce Nuryadi also reported that there was an elementary school (SD) student who has to undergo PJJ.
"A SD student has to take PJJ because a close relative has been exposed to COVID-19, so the students was asked to take PJJ temporarily," he said.
The agency did not decide to stop the school's offline learning, because it was known that the student was not confirmed positive for COVID-19, only the relative.
According to Nuryadi, the schools have so far been quite stict in implementing health protocols, but it can no longer be controled when outside of school.
"We ask parents to strictly monitor their children, because COVID-19 cases are starting to rise," he said.
